Splitting The Land is my attempt at bring the issue of healthy lands to the forefront of peoples thinking. As an artist, I have a way to express my concerns in a way that is not confrontational. This quilt speaks to the issues of modern day environmental distress. We have overused, and misused our earth. Fracking, mining, pollution and erosion are some of the actions that have negative repercussions on the land that we live on. This quilt expresses my desire is to preserve and care for our land.
Splitting the land is entirely screen printed using thickened dyes. Once printed it was sliced up and sewn together with woven fabrics in the seams. I hand quilted this work in hopes that the stitching lines would speak to healing rather than division.
